SUMMARY:EDM Workshop 36: Digitalization in Electronics' Design\, Supply Chain and Life-Cycle Management
DESCRIPTION:Electronics provides the engine for the digitalization of our economy and society. Electronics is everywhere and needs to fulfill an increasingly long list of requirements such as performance\, low cost\, quality\, reliability\, maintainability\, sustainability\, safety\, regulatory compliancy\, and many more. Deployment in new types of operational environments\, new operation modes\, new device technologies\, and new applications\, in combination with a very challenging supply chain and a continuously shortening time-to-market\, makes the classic experience based design-build-test approach to product development obsolete. A paradigm shift is needed in which computational methods predicting the characteristics of electronics become a core element of design verification and validation. In this workshop we explore the industrial availability of tools that can support this paradigm shift as well those that can support the management of the electronic product’s supply chain and life cycle.  \n\n\n\nAgenda \n\n\n\n13h30Welcome13h40 A paradigm shift in electronic product development by Geert Willems – imec14h00Digitalization in the electronics industry by Jeroen De Jong – SiemensWith increasing complexity and fast-changing business models\, digitalization becomes more and more important to stay in the game\, win new business and quickly adapt to changes. The old trial-and-error build-design-test is being replaced by solutions that maximally predict the life-cycle aspects and characteristics of electronics by means of simulations\, virtual prototyping\, design rule checks\, supply chain assessment\, etc. We also touch upon the role AI can play in digitalization in the electronics industry.14h25Smart manufacturing for electronics by Jean-Paul Dirven – SiemensHow do you keep up with today’s component supply issues while balancing staffing and resources and still deliver quality products on time without passing the cost onto your customers? The answer is to make your factory “smart\,” making it operate as efficiently as possible with leaner operations for more effective use of your resources and more predictable inventory needs. You’ll gain maximum flexibility\, better predictability\, and more agility to lower lead times and costs for customers. Ensure on-time delivery with production capacity improvements and fewer defective products.Break-out session I: Design15h10Simulation driven design for electronics by Julian Lai and Heiko Dudek – SiemensAnalysis is key to rapid evaluation and verification\, allowing you to eliminate unfit designs as early as possible before consuming significant resources. Continuously verify\, manage and share all the data\, including requirements\, test plans\, and results\, to address electronics design challenges and effectively shorten your entire program with Analysis Driven Design.Break-out session II: Product Life-Cycle Management15h10Supply Chain management by Andres Maya – SiemensIn the rapidly evolving electronics industry\, managing the supply chain has become increasingly complex due to technological advancements\, fluctuating demand\, and global disruptions. We address these challenges by focusing on the innovative concept of ‘shifting left’ in supply chain management. This approach emphasizes the importance of integrating supply chain considerations early in the product design and development phases to enhance resilience\, efficiency\, and innovation.15h50Product Life-Cycle management for electronics by Jeroen De Jong – SiemensDeveloping ever more innovative products requires a collaborative way of working that helps managing complexity and shortens development cycles. Teams should be enabled to collaborate as early as possible and in real-time\, creating a 360º view of project\, product\, and process data. PLM provides the backbone for connecting data\, applications\, people and processes throughout a product’s entire lifecycle.16h30Networking\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Intro EDM Workshop 36\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 2 MB\n \n \n Download\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor members only \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n A Paradigm Shift in Electronic Product Development\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 1 MB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Digitalization in the Electronics Industry\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 4 MB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Smart Manufacturing for Electronics\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 2 MB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Simulation Driven Design for Electronics\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 5 MB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Supply Chain Management\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 2 MB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Product Life-Cycle Management for Electronics\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 3 MB\n \n \n Login to download.

SUMMARY:EDM Workshop 35: Environmental Impact of Digitalization
DESCRIPTION:Today no company can ignore the sustainability and environmental impact of its products and business. The digitalization of society associated with the proliferation of electronics everywhere implies that electronics is a key element in the environmental impact of a growing number of products\, systems\, installations and services. This workshop dives into the challenges of assessing the environmental impact of electronics through-out its lifetime. \n\n\n\nAn Vercalsteren of VITO will introduce the basic elements and the state-of-the-art of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). LCA is generally applied to assess the environmental impact of a product or service over its full life cycle. \n\n\n\nUnfortunately\, the actual state-of-the-art of the Life Cycle Assessment and the Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) databases\, do not allow an accurate assessment of the environmental impact of electronics. Furthermore\, the cumbersome nature of LCA severely limits its useability as an eco-design supporting tool. Geert Willems\, imec-EDM Forum\, will explain how a lean eco-design methodology based on parametric LCI-models may be a workable alternative\, also for the SME. The parametric LCI-models provide an answer to the shortcomings of LCI data records as they are used today. Parametric LCI models for PCB manufacturing and Printed Board Assembly will be presented. \n\n\n\nCedric Rollin\, imec-SSTS\, will discuss the environmental impact of IC manufacturing and the challenges of its impact assessment. Sustainable Semiconductor Technologies and Systems is a new department and research program at imec joined by World leading companies like Apple\, Microsoft\, Amazon\, Meta and several to engage into more sustainable IC manufacturing. \n\n\n\nAlso the use of electronics for mobile communication\, cloud computing\, data streaming\, machine learning\, etc.\, may contribute significantly to e.g. climate change if not managed properly. Jean-Pierre Raskin\, UCLouvain\, will discuss the environmental impact of a digital society in operation. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will close with a Q&A session followed by a networking opportunity with some alcohol-free drinks and snacks. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n13h00 Welcome13h30Intro to Life Cycle Assessment\, LCI and LCIAAn Vercalsteren\, VITO14h00 Internet-of-Things for the better or the worstJean-Pierre Raskin\, UCLouvain14h30 Lean eco-design of electronics based on parametric Life Cycle Inventory analysisGeert Willems\, imec-EDM Forum15h00 Parametric LCI of PCB manufacturing and assemblyMaarten Cauwe imec-CMST\, Geert Willems imec-EDM Forum15h30 Assessing the environmental impact of integrated circuit chip manufacturingCedric Rolin\, imec-SSTS16h00 Q&A and discussion16h30 Networking18h00 Closure\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Intro EDM Workshop 35\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 834.38 KB\n \n \n Download\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor members only \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Introduction to Life Cycle Assessment\, LCI and LCIA\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 3.91 MB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Internet-of-Things for the Best and the Worst\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 3.56 MB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lean Eco-design of Electronics Based on Parametric LCI Analysis\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 2.74 MB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Parametric LCI of PCB Manufacturing and Assembly\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 1.71 MB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Assessing the Environmental Impact of IC Chip Manufacturing\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 3.39 MB\n \n \n Login to download.

SUMMARY:EDM Workshop 34: Smart Product Exploration
DESCRIPTION:Intelligence and connectivity are essential properties of an increasing number of products in a wide range of applications. Making a product smart and connected opens possibilities but also raises questions: what do our customers really need? What value do we need to offer? How to reduce risks? What technology and expertise are needed? How to establish a successful business? In this workshop we introduce a system engineering based methodology to master the fuzzy front-end of smart product development which we call the New Product Exploration stage. In this stage the stakeholder’s needs and problems and their potential solutions are explored. It addresses key questions like: \n\n\n\n– How can we obtain a validated solution concept efficiently without cost and time budget overruns. \n\n\n\n– What expertise and capabilities do we need to develop\, produce and manage the life-cycle of the smart product solution? After a short introduction to system life-cycle stages and processes\, the New Product Exploration methodology is introduced based on the ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and 24784-1 system engineering. We discuss how the problems and needs of stakeholders can be explored and how a solution can be validated. In a second part we focus on the organization developing the system solution. What are the capabilities an organziation needs to have to be able to develop smart products and create a successful business with and/or around a smart product\, and what is the status of these capabilities? What is the status of our product development and its life-cycle management? We will present an organization and product maturity assessment tool. \n\n\n\nAgenda \n\n\n\n13h30A System Engineering Approach to Smart Product Exploration.Geert Willems – imec14h20System Engineering Based Smart Product Exploration.Thomas De Meester – imec15h30Networking and tool demonstration\n\n\n\n\n\nFor members only \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n A System Engineering Approach to Smart Product Exploration\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 6.93 MB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n System Engineering Based Smart Product Exploration\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 4.88 MB\n \n \n Login to download.

SUMMARY:Webinar 2022-6-17: Solution Space Exploration and validation
DESCRIPTION:This webinar series is an initiative of the COOCK project ‘Oriënteren en Beslissen in Slimme Product Exploratie’ funded by VLAIO. More information about this project can be found on the project page.Intelligence and connectivity are becoming essential product properties. Making a product smart and connected opens possibilities but also raises questions: How to be successful? How to reduce risks? How to keep focus? How to present your solution? What value does it offer? What technology and expertise are needed? This three part webinar series addresses the above questions and many more\, in a systematic way. Our approach is based on the System Engineering methodology developed by the INCOSE consortium of system engineering\, that is consolidated in the ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and ISO/IEC/IEEE 24748-1 standards. The goal is to minimize the “fuzziness” in the smart product exploration and validation. In this “Solution Space Exploration and Validation” we address the fuzzy front-end of product development which transforms first ideas of a (smart) product-based solution into a validated concept upon which a Product Requirements Document (PRD) can be based. The PRD forms the basis of the product’s architecture definition\, the first phase of the actual product development.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor members only \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n A System Engineering Approach to Smart Product Exploration: System Analysis\, Verification and Validation\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 836.34 KB\n \n \n Login to download. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Solution Space and Concept Validation\n \n \n \n \n 1 file(s) 1.91 MB\n \n \n Login to download.
