PBA Reliability seminar with plant and test facility visit Jabil Hasselt – 2026
March 20 | 12:00 am – 5:00 pm CET

Smart products, AI, electronics everywhere… increasing electronics complexity means more opportunities to fail and, therefore, intrinsically a reduced reliability.
This seminar will explain reliability assessment, take you through the failure mechanisms in electronics and show you why and how Physics-of-Failure must be the cornerstone of modern reliability engineering. The seminar is followed by a visit to the test facilities of the seminar host Jabil Hasselt. Before the seminar, a visit to the PBA assembly plant introduces PBA technology.
This seminar is complementary to the PCB and PBA technology seminars. Preferably, the participants have attended these seminars or are familiar with PCB and PBA technology
AGENDA
12h00 Doors – Sandwich lunch
12h30 Welcome by Vital Driesen (Jabil Hasselt)
12h45 Introductory visit to Printed Board Assembly plant
14h00 PBA Reliability seminar (Geert Willems – imec/EDM Forum)
The seminar starts with a short introduction of some reliability physics basics (bathtub curve, failure distribution) and how quality is linked to reliability. Then we dive into the different latent defects that can cause early failures and the failure mechanisms that can cause (to early) wear-out failures. These include solder joint failure, corrosion, PCB and component failures. The seminar closes with a discussion on how to assess quantitatively the reliability of a PBA.
15h30 Visit to test facilities
16h30 Networking at the Corda Bar.
Participation fee: Members and Jabil invitees free of charge
